Blogger Upgrade

I've upgraded the blog to the newest version of Blogger. I think in order to add new posts, you'll need to sign up for it. The new version is really neat, and makes it a lot easier to update the template if you so desire. I think as new people sign up for the new version, they should appear in the profile/contributors container to the right. To sign up, just log into Blogger as usual. You should see a link in the dashboard to upgrade. Click the upgrade link and follow the prompts.

Jeez Louise, Even More News!!

Well, as some of you may already know, Thania is pregnant. Not only is she pregnant, she is having twins. At this time she's about eight weeks into it, and apparently the risk goes down after 12 weeks, so we're not out of the woods yet. I'm totally stoked about being a dad, and I will be bugging Yorgi a lot for advice.

Legal News...Sort of

Well guys, I'm happy to announce that I am splitting from my current law firm, and I am opening my own firm. Actually it's a partnership between one of the lawyers working at my current firm and myself. We already have a place and have been working on outfitting it. We will be officially open for business on January 2, 2007. As you all know, I specialize in personal injury, but at this point I plan on practicing Door Law (anything that walks through the door). I'm very excited about this, and I couldn't resist notifiying you guys. The next time any of you is down in this area, please let me know so that I can show you my place.

Care Package for Juan

Sheila had a great idea to send Juan a care package. Please feel free to add some comments to this post, and we'll attach them to the care package. It would be really nice for Juan to see all of the best wishes from the Stu Crew. Grownzup said he'd like to contribute towards the package. If anyone else would like to contribute as well, feel free to send money or items. So far we have:
  • Cuban crackers
  • Guava paste
  • Homemade double-chocolate brownies
  • Buttermilk pancake mix (for Parisa)
  • Life savers
  • Jello
  • Family Guy Volume 4 on DVD (comes out tomorrow, and Sheila is going to pick it up)

Bad News

I don't know a lot of details at this point, but Juan was in an auto accident yesterday. I'm not even sure what time it happened, but Parisa called my parents late last night to let them know. I don't know if he was walking or if he was in a car when it happened. He broke his arm and they had to perform surgery on him. They are performing a second operation on him today.

My mom told me that other than the broken arm and some minor trauma to the head, he's doing okay. They expect he should be released from the hospital in about a week. More than likely, he won't be coming to the States for Thanksgiving, so I don't think the reunion is going to happen. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and I will keep everyone updated on his condition.

100% Stu Crew Reunion?

I'm not sure if you have all heard or not, but Juan is going to be in South Florida for a very brief time this year for the Sangibing holiday. We have been discussing a reunion halfway up the state, perhaps in Orlando. Mark says he's not sure because his Uncle Cousin is going to be in town. However, Uncle Cousin has 3 boys and they also have a cousin visiting from Bolivia. I think it is a perfect opportunity for them to visit Orlando for a day and a night and get their drink along with all of us.

Juan and I could head up to Orlando on Friday evening and we can hook it up. Sadly enough, we would probably leave early on Saturday, because Juan is only going to be here for 4 days (Thursday - Sunday). So who is down for a 100% full Stu Crew reunion in Orlando on Friday, November 23?!?!?!

Mountain Biking

I want to say an official "thanks" to Mark and Miguel. These two cats got me into mountain biking. I started shortly after the first UF game this season and haven't stopped since. I'm already doing advanced and expert trails and can't get enough. I've taken a couple of spills, but they have been relatively minor. Plus, I've lost a couple of pounds as a result. Again, thanks dudes, and Miguel we should ride one of these days.

Technical Difficulties

Seems something went wrong with the site, and somehow a blank page was published. I've republished and it should be working okay. However, I'm still having some problems with the DNS and GoDaddy. http://stucrew.com should be forwarding to http://blogspot.stucrew.com, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'll try to get it fixed soon.

Geeksquad

Hey guys, I just want to take a minute to tell you about a positive experience I had. It was with the Geeksquad. You know, the group that drives in the black & white buggies with short sleeve shirts and ties and work at Best Buy. Well, here's how it happened. I bought a laptop and tried to connect it to my wireless network. Simple, right? Well, the whole friggin thing crashed instantly, and I spent the next couple of days of my life trying to figure it out. That's when it hit me - I have better things to do than sit here and suffer from high blood pressure. So, I did what any prudent consumer would do and called the "experts" at the Geeksquad. Ok, I was a little skeptical at first, and definitely wary of the prices. However, I decided to try them out anyway.

I called this morning, and by this evening a nice fella named Federico was at my place. No, this is not the beginning of a gay porn, although it would be a pretty good one if it were. Anyway, this guy started working with a speed only seen in the likes of Mr. Yorgi Sierra (much props brother) and became one with the computer(s). Just a few minutes later, everything was up and running beautifully, which of course made me feel completely incompetent in anything having to do with puters. Now, as I sit here on my throne writing this blog, I must say, those people at Geeksquad aren't so bad after all. I highly recommend them.

I've been waiting since 1985 for this. And no, it's not the Transformers movie (which I am eagerly awaiting as well.) Just click on the title of this post.

Dirty Sanchez Song

http://myspace.com/craigcarmeanmusic

Sound required. Hilarious song that I heard on the radio, and I finally found out the guy's name (Craig Carmean) and found the song on the 'Net. The lyrics aren't particularly work-friendly, although it is difficult to tell that the song is making reference to vulgarities given its pleasant melody. If you're at work, you might want to listen to it with headphones or keep the sound real low. You have been warned. The guy makes reference to some pretty nasty slangs. Some I've never even heard of until I heard this song. Enjoy!

Here fishy, fishy...

Hey guys and gals. This is from my latest SCUBA adventure. I took this photo off the waters of Ft. Lauderdale at a place called Barracuda Reef. Oddly enough, I did not see any barracuda. It must be a marketing ploy. I'm working on my photography skills every time I go in the water, so hopefully the quality will keep improving. I hope you like the photo.

Later dudes,

Baby Pictures?

Yorgi, I think you should post some of Gabriela's baby pictures on the StuCrew. I mean, how often do we get to see a StuCrewite grow up before our eyes. What do you say?

Shi Dog Doesn't Know....

but I'm creating this post from his house...tee-hee. He's busy in the kitchen doing some work, and I'm sitting at his computer trying to do some of my work. I'm up in G'ville on business and am only staying overnight. Yet, the drive through the town has rehashed some great memories. Johnny, the "Soul Food" restaurant is still alive and well - except that now they have a huge Gator logo in the front. I hope they still sell spicy gizzards. Mmmm. The school is empty right now, but I just love thinking about living in this town. In a little bit, we're headed to Maui Teriyaki. I have had dreams about this place, and they are finally going to come true. Me so hungry!! Not much else from me, but I just wanted to share these thoughts from G'ville land. Later dudes.

You Gotta Love Gator Fans

This guy pulled off a pretty neat move. Here's his story and his picture from the recent NCAA Basketball game against George Mason.

"As most of you know, in order to score good tickets to the Final Four a few weeks ago, I pulled off a major scam. On the eve of the Final Four I joined the George Mason booster club for a whopping $25 ($20 of which was tax deductible) to get priority in ordering tickets to the game, an idea Evan Glasser and I came up with. I showed up to pick up the tickets, and unlike everyone else, my tickets were not in an envelope waiting for me. Given my status in the GMU family, I was handed four tickets on the floor thirty rows up. If this picture does not say it all, then I don't know what does. Hope everyone is doing well and GO GATORS!"

New Look for Stu Crew

I've changed the Stu Crew site to use Dynablogger!, a new Blogger hack I've been working on. The new code allows you to navigate through posts, and does a better job of new posts that have comments. I may temporarily break the site if I'm working on some stuff. If the site does break, just try revisiting a few minutes later. Let me know if you have any suggestions for Dynablogger!

FINALLY!!!

Well guys, I finally closed on my house. It has been an ordeal from hell, but it's done. I've aged quite a bit from it all. Now comes the "fun" part of unpacking everything. We'll be done in a couple of weeks probably. I will have a housewarming gig and will let all of you know with plenty of time to make plans. I will try to time it for when Vorrence is in town. As I'm sure you know, all of you are welcome to drop by any time, unless I'm taking the Browns to the Super Bowl at the time. Other than that, it's cool.

Orange and Blue

Sheila and I were talking with her brother yesterday, and he mentioned that he was going to be going up for the Orange and Blue game next month, on April 22. Sheila and I are going to try to make it up there as well, so we should try to have a mini reunion that weekend in Gainesville/Lake City.

I'm Finally Closing on my House

I wanted to share with you guys that after waiting for over 1 year, I am finally closing on my house in Ft. Lauderdale. Some of you may know that shortly after our wedding, Thania and I moved in with my older sister in Doral (west Miami-Dade County). This was meant to be a temporary measure until our house was completed. Since we believed the B.S. we heard from the builder, we figured we'd be in Doral for 1-2 months. However, the builder missed its mark by one year exactly since we were supposed to close in March 2005. Living at someone else's home for one year is something nobody should experience. No matter how nice you are, or how clean you are, there are always time when you're just in the way. That's how it has been for us all this time - not to mention that I commute about 100 miles a day. Now that is all about to end. We are scheduled to close Monday, March 20. I am moving in that same day with my air mattress. Thania will follow with the bed later in the week. Nonetheless, I am very excited and wanted to share this news with my friends. Now when y'all come down, I expect a stop-over at my pad for a drink.

Later,
J

Baby Sierra

Ok, boys and girls. She's finally arrived. Jorge and Sheila's little girl came into the world at 1:36 PM today (March 2, 2006). She is nice and pink with a full head of black, black hair. She's weighing in at only six pounds, seven ounces and is eighteen inches long. It was a natural delivery and took Sheila only twenty minutes to pop "peanut" out. Everybody is healthy and in great shape. Unfortunately, she has Jorge's toes. Yuck- Sierra toes.

One More SCUBA picture

Hey guys, this is a photograph I took this weekend while diving the Tracey shipwreck off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale. This ship was sunk in the early 1980's when it was seized from a drug smuggler. No, there are no more drugs left in it, but the fish around it act awfully strange and seem to have the constant munchies. I digress. Anyway, the picture shows the platform on the back of the ship. There is a lot of sea life around the area, but thankfully no big boys (i.e. Jaws) made an appearance. Hope you enjoy it. Take care. -J

Chaney Shooting Re-enactment

A couple of friends of mine started up a random blog. The Daily Show had a very accurate re-enactment of the Dick Chaney hunting accident. Be sure to check it out, and feel free to check out the rest of our blog.

Well, I finally made it into the ocean with a SCUBA tank. It was easier than I thought, and much prettier than the swimming pool. We went out on Saturday and Sunday and did two dives each day. On the second day we went all the way down to 70 feet! It was actually very relaxed and a lot of fun. We went to a shipwreck called the Hog Heaven, which is an upside down barge that sank in the ealy 1980's - righ around the time that Wham! was peaking the charts. The picture I am sharing in this post is from that dive at the Hog Heaven. I'm not sure who named this shipwreck, but I'm guessing it was someone from North Florida.

SCUBA Lessons

Hi y'all. As some of you may know, I recently began taking SCUBA lessons in Ft. Loderdél. I have not gone in the ocean just yet, but I did go in a swimming pool (not as exciting I predict). I'm told we're going in the ocean this weekend. However, I wanted to share this photograph of me underwater. Unfortunately muff diving is not part of the curriculum.

Great time at Baby Shower

I want to thank Jorge and Sheila for putting together an excellent baby shower on Sunday. We all had a great time. Sheila, you look awesome. Juan was there with Sweet Lady as well. We ate, we drank and we had an overall excellent time. To the fellas who weren't there, you were missed. It's exciting to think that in probably less than a month we will have a new addition to our StuCrew.
